Job Summary

The job title is Guidance Consultant and is a remote working role residing in the country of South Africa, city of Johannesburg. This is a Fixed-Term, Full-Time position.  This position is ideal for mental health professionals who prioritize clinical excellence and demonstrate empathy in their approach, and who thrive in a dynamic environment where accessibility, responsiveness, and client-centered care are paramount.

 

Guidance Consultants provide direct support to clients via telephone and chat; they address issues related to behavioral health, emotional well-being, family concerns, and overall wellness, demonstrating professionalism, compassion, and sound clinical judgment.

Consultants leverage their clinical expertise to provide immediate support, guide clients toward available resources, and facilitate prompt and appropriate referrals, thereby ensuring continuity of care and positive outcomes.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide telephone and chat-based support by conducting in-depth clinical assessments and referring clients to appropriate resources, including therapists, counselors, and relevant wellness resources.
  • Conduct client assessments and apply coaching methodologies to develop personalized health and wellness strategies that foster positive behavioral change.
  • Ensure adherence to departmental protocols, industry best practices, and specific client requirements to guarantee compliance and the delivery of high-quality service.
  • Provide services in a culturally competent, inclusive, and respectful manner to individuals from diverse backgrounds with varied needs.
  • Exercise sound judgment, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills to assess situations, promptly resolve concerns, and facilitate the provision of appropriate support, with the aim of enhancing the overall client experience.
  • Inform clients—in a professional and empathetic manner—about available resources, eligibility criteria, and the services offered by the program.
  • Maintain accurate, comprehensive, and up-to-date documentation of all client interactions within the organization's internal database system.
  • Stay informed about emerging trends, resources, and best practices in the field of behavioral health to continuously enhance service delivery.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure continuity of care and alignment with specific client service expectations.
  • Strictly adhere to medical confidentiality and applicable data protection regulations (e.g., GDPR in Europe, PDPA in Singapore, PIPEDA in Canada).
  • Perform any other additional duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications

  • A Master’s degree or an equivalent graduate degree in Psychology, Social Work, Behavioral Health, or a related behavioral health field, issued by a recognized institution, is required.
  • Where the applicable professional regulatory framework in the country or jurisdiction of employment recognizes a Bachelor’s degree as the standard entry-level professional qualification for the relevant discipline, such a degree issued by a recognized institution—combined with relevant post-graduate experience—may be considered equivalent.
  • Candidates must meet all education and experience requirements for professional practice eligibility and/or for licensure or registration with the relevant regulatory authority in their jurisdiction of employment, where such registration or licensure is required by law or regulation.
  • Eligibility for professional practice and/or registration in the country of residence, in accordance with applicable national regulations.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite and client information systems is required.
  • Professional working proficiency in English required and an additional language proficiency in the following areas highly preferred (Afrikaans, Swati, Xhosa, Zulu)
  • Recognized credentials or certifications in health or wellness coaching are preferred.
  • Work experience in multicultural or international environments is preferred.
  • Ability to provide client-centered support, demonstrating high levels of empathy, active listening, and coaching skills.
  • Sound clinical judgment and the ability to manage high-risk or crisis situations.
  • Excellent communication skills, with a strong service orientation.
  • Ability to exercise critical thinking and multitask effectively in fast-paced environments.
  • High level of professionalism, integrity, and cultural sensitivity.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality.
  • Responsiveness, dynamism, and a positive, professional attitude, coupled with proven skills in multitasking and critical thinking for handling crisis or high-risk situations.

 

Other Requirements

 

  • A stable and reliable high-speed internet connection, as well as a workspace free from distractions, interruptions, or noise, are required.
  • Ability to appear on camera (video enabled) during training sessions, meetings, and/or work-related events.
  • Must be able to sit or stand at a desk for extended periods while working on a computer.

Compensation and Benefits

The pay range for this positions is R 250,000 - 320,000 (per year). Compensation will be determined in accordance with applicable local market rates and legal requirements. Where required by applicable law, salary range information will be provided to Providers upon request.
