Job Summary

Join ComPsych’s dynamic Business Applications team in a leadership role where you’ll drive API strategy for the rapidly evolving healthcare and well-being sector. As a Lead API Developer, you’ll architect and deliver mission-critical integrations, mentor a talented development team, and collaborate cross-functionally to build scalable, secure solutions that empower our business stakeholders. This role combines technical excellence with leadership in a collaborative, values-driven environment. Your success will be characterized by outstanding cross-departmental communication and collaboration to deliver quality solutions, enterprise-level APIs and integrations that meet or exceed evolving business and technical goals.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Technical Leadership & Solution Ownership:
    • Lead the design, development, and deployment of high-performance APIs using platforms like MuleSoft or Spring Boot.
    • Own end-to-end API solutions and Integrations, ensuring adherence to healthcare compliance standards (e.g., HIPAA, HL7/FHIR) and best practices in security, scalability, and observability.
    • Guide the team in implementing Integration architectures and microservices patterns.
    • Review/Approve API specifications, design and code as per the best practices and standards.
    • Review API logs and analytics to avoid bottlenecks and Issues.
    • Implement monitoring and Governance of APIs.
    • Develop and own the API documentation and catalog that is accessible to integrators.
  • Team Mentorship & Collaboration:
    • Serve as a technical mentor for developers, fostering growth in API development, integration, and cloud-native practices.
    • Partner with business analysts and stakeholders to translate healthcare/wellness requirements into robust technical solutions and specifications.
    • Act as an escalation point for complex issues in production systems or project delivery.
  • Cross-Functional Leadership:
    • Communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences, including senior leadership.
    • Coordinate with DevOps to streamline CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, Docker/Kubernetes) and monitoring Prometheus/Grafana/Splunk.
    • Champion Agile/Scrum methodologies and a culture of continuous improvement.
    • Other duties as required.

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent field. Master of Science preferred.
  • 10+ years of full lifecycle software development experience with focus on web application development, Java programming, relational databases, microservices, Integrations and enterprise level APIs.
  • 3+ years of experience mentoring a team of software developers
  • Clear understanding of Integration patterns, Microservices, APIs and AsyncAPIs.
  • Expertise and Experience in:
    • MuleSoft 4.x (Anypoint Studio, API Manager, RAML/OAS, Anypoint Platform, Cloudhub, RTF, DataWeave, Monitoring and Governance).
    • Spring Boot (REST APIs, Spring Security, JPA/Hibernate).
    • Kong Gateway (plugins, OAuth2/JWT, rate limiting).
    • Java/JEE (Core, Spring Framework, JAX-RS).
  • Strong knowledge of relational (Oracle, SQL tuning) and NoSQL Databases.
  • Working knowledge of Cloud Azure/AWS, containers and Kubernetes.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to enable collaboration at all levels within the organization, including upper-level managers in various business units
  • Preferred certification: Mulesoft Developer, API Architect or Platform Architect.
