Job Summary

This is an exciting opportunity in the large and growing segment of healthcare and well-being. As a member of technical leadership on the ComPsych Business Applications development team, you will work in a dynamic, collaborative, and friendly work environment. As an experienced Enterprise API Architect, you will lead the design, implementation, and governance of our organization's API strategy. In this role, you will be responsible for creating a unified API ecosystem that enables seamless integration between our various business systems, partners, and customers. The ideal candidate will combine technical expertise with strategic vision to drive API standardization, reusability, and security across the enterprise.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain the enterprise API architecture roadmap aligned with business objectives
  • Design RESTful, GraphQL, and event-driven APIs that balance performance, scalability, and usability
  • Establish API standards, best practices, and design patterns for the organization
  • Lead API gateway implementation and management strategies
  • Create comprehensive API documentation and developer resources
  • Collaborate with enterprise architects, software engineers, and product managers to ensure API designs meet business requirements
  • Implement effective API lifecycle management processes from creation to retirement
  • Develop API security protocols and governance frameworks
  • Guide development teams on API implementation and integration
  • Evaluate and recommend API tools, platforms, and technologies
  • Monitor API performance, usage patterns, and identify optimization opportunities
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to development teams on API best practices

Job Qualifications

  • 10+ years of full lifecycle software development experience with web application development, Java programming, relational databases, and source code control tools
  • 7+ years of experience in software architecture with at least 4 years focused on API design and implementation
  • Bachelor of Science (BS) in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent field. Masters of Science preferred.
  • Strong understanding of API architectural styles (REST, GraphQL, gRPC, SOAP, WebSockets)
  • Experience with API management platforms (Apigee, MuleSoft, Kong, AWS API Gateway, etc.)
  • Deep knowledge of microservices architecture and domain-driven design
  • Proficiency in OpenAPI/Swagger specifications and API documentation
  • Experience with authentication protocols (OAuth, JWT, SAML)
  • Strong understanding of enterprise integration patterns and service-oriented architecture
  • Familiarity with event-driven architecture and message brokers (Kafka, RabbitMQ)
  • Understanding of data modeling and database integration within API contexts
  • Excellent communication skills to articulate complex technical concepts to various stakeholders
  • Experience in a regulated industry (finance, healthcare, etc.) preferred
  • Experience and strong knowledge of deployment tools, CI/CD, and both Linux and Windows platforms
